2017 Home Design Trends We Love

2017 is already shaping up to be a beautiful year—at least as far as home design trends are concerned! With a penchant for bright colors, mixed patterns, and cheeky themes, homeowners have a lot to look forward to in the coming months. Below are some of our favorite trends currently sweeping the design world. We’re sure we’ll be seeing some of them in our beautiful homes at The Preserve at Tidewater!

The Green Machine

Each year Pantone, the leading authority on color systems, chooses a color of the year. They recently announced that the 2017 Pantone Color of the Year is a lovely hue called “Greenery.” Bright, cheery, refreshing, and vitalizing, it’s a breath of fresh air at a time when many people are looking for exactly that. According to Pantone, the shade is meant to “evoke thoughts of flourishing foliage and, in turn, fresh beginnings.” We think it’s a great way to kick off the new year!

Giving Us Butterflies

Along with the color green, another all-natural accessory will be landing in our homes this year. That accessory is none other than the beautiful butterfly. As a motif, these colorful insects represent grace and optimism, and have been showing up on many accents in homes. For a touch of whimsy and to experiment with this fun trend, try out a butterfly throw pillow. For a bolder statement, butterfly-print wallpaper is a brave choice.

Mix and Match

Mismatched patters, once viewed as “too busy,” are now making headway in many homes. Mixing patterns is relaxing and whimsical, an easy way to make your home feel more—well—homey. To keep these patterns from becoming too overwhelming, try to keep your patterns in the same general color scheme for subtle unity. This design choice is also more playful, reflecting a desire many Americans have for their homes to serve as a refuge where they can unwind.

We’re Feeling It

The trends this year aren’t just limited to paint colors and patterns. They’re also taking over furniture, specifically in the area of texture. Think velvet sofas, pleated curtains, faux fur rugs, and mohair throws scattered around dens and bedrooms. These warm and comfortable textures offer a welcome escape from the world of screens, cubicles, and phones that so many of us feel tethered to.

Tech to the Rescue

Many of these trends we’ve mentioned so far can be viewed almost as a rejection of technology, and a return to a simpler time. That doesn’t mean homeowners are completely abandoning the future, however! Nowhere is this clearer than the trend of voice activated assistants. From Amazon’s Alexa to Google Home to the Nest, the tech-savvy homeowner has many options. And while these products are as technologically advanced as you can get, they still have the same goal as textured fabrics and warm wood—to make your life easier so you can spend time on the things that matter most.

While design trends come and go, one thing is always in style—a brand new home at The Preserve at Tidewater! Make your dream come true and decorate a new space this year. The first step is making an appointment to visit our community. In the meantime, we hope 2017 is off to a beautiful start.
